EMBER
I looked at the night sky
No trace of stars but a hint of a dawn coming
Trees barren from the frost of winter
Holding on to the hope of spring
I looked at the night sky
Finding answers to my inquiry
Lighting the expanse of the land
With the cold sighs of an uprooted tree
I looked at the night
As it slowly gives into the coming dawn
And there I saw on the fire pit
A glowing ember—
A firewood that refused to set ablaze
But now unwilling to assuage
I looked at the ember
As it flickered towards me
Will it set afire
Or will it let things be?
I looked at the ember
The ember looked back at me
Seeming to comprehend each other
Keeping each other company
I stared at the ember
Till sleep came to seize me
The ember still glowing
Stubbornly flickering
We bade at each other, reassuring—
“Have faith in me.“
